hi there!!

wow...didn't realise that i haven't update my blog for almost 2 months!! anyone missed me? or has everyone stopped reading my blog? hee...

many things has happened these 2 months, let's see...

1. i started working on 4th june. think a lot of ppl are stunned or puzzled by my choice. i gave up the phd offer and a chance to pursue a career in research to go into civil service. well, somehow, even though i like research and i've always thought i'll go into research, i've decided to choose a different path simply because i don't see my future in it. staying in a lab, working till the wee hours, reading tons of papers, reading books that are only half english (to non-scientific ppl) simply don't appeal to me as a life career. civil service is a start, a place where i believe i can learn useful stuff and a place where i can stop at to think about my next move.

2. my 2nd year anniversary with my dear...spent on superstar virgo where most of the other cruisers spent their entire time in the casino haha...

3. my first pay slip. not counting those for the part time jobs previously. and i'm enjoying myself immensely, spending a lot on cute/pretty stuff to decorate my cubicle at work, clothes, make up, accessories etc...not to mention a meal for my family and my dear hee...

4. the highlight - convocation. a time of mixed feelings...feel so sad to leave the school, my schooling life, 4 years with the godiva girls. everything just comes back to us on this day. godiva girls must always stay in contact with each other!!

5. the launch of the final book of harry potter. which my dear got for me when he was in china, at a price $13 cheaper than if i buy locally. wow, the book is amazing, exciting and captivating, i simply can't keep my hands, or eyes for that matter, off the book.

back from korea!!

anyone missed me???

well, apparently my little niece, xiaoxin, didn't...she didn't pick me up at the airport!! hmph, no gifts for her...xuanxuan did come, with my mum and bro...more chocolates for her haha...

korea was not bad...i like my tour group, they were all very nice and easy-going people. even though the 7 of us created so much trouble and they had to keep waiting for us, they did so without complaints...thanks!! but, i think the itinerary wasn't exactly that good...there were days when we had to travel like mad and there were days when we reached back the hotel at 6pm...

shopping was disappointing, stuff there are so expensive and not exactly to my taste. so ended up, i bought lots of food (seaweed, dongfen, tidbits, chocolates) back. the honey was most worth the money, i think. 1.2kg of pure honey for 57SGD.

food there was great though, i enjoyed every single meal...don't dare to weigh myself now, i'm scared i'll be shocked by the numbers that appear.

well...message me if you wan to see photos, i haven't upload them yet cause my bro brought the card reader out...

oh anyone on to go shopping for GSS? i haven't shopped enough!!

alright, one post before i leave...

long time haven't update here...not that i was busy or what, i guess i was just too lazy and don't feel like spending so much time on blogging. somemore, it's not as if i can write to my heart's content here...there're so many things that can't be published online...

ok, a few updates:

1. fyp is finally over!! poster presentation is over too!! and since the day i handed in my thesis, i haven't stepped into my lab again...guess that's how much i like my lab...but i hope i don't get too lousy a grade for my fyp...afterall, my honours grade depends a lot on that and i don't want to get a lower grade just because i screwed up on my fyp...prays hard.

2. sbs dnd is over too...18th may at asian civilisations museum...not bad, quite fun, i enjoyed myself very much. and lucky me, i won the fifth prize!! a 1Gb mp3 player from Shiro...it's so pretty, can view videos, photos, text files, has a fm tuner and the sound quality is good! i gave it to my dear, who has been using my old 128Mb mp3 player for the past 1 and half years...i like the ez link card and personalised cashcard too!! thanks sbs dnd organising committee...
ooh and mark proposed to jo after the dnd!! and our dear jo said yes!! haha...jo certainly didn't let us down, she's the first among all of us to get married!! who's next? yanling? sharon? yulei?

3. something i'm quite sick of...a lot of people, practically everyone, have been asking me if i'm going to accept the ntu phd scholarship and continue studying my phd at ntu. even the sbs office is rushing me to make my decision by sending me a personalised email asking me to indicate my acceptance asap. come on leh, the deadline is 7th june leh, not today or tomorrow. what's the hurry? i hate it when people rush me to make a decision as big as this and i certainly do not appreciate everyone asking me about it whenever we are on the topic of graduation, work or further studies. i finally understand how peck yean felt when everyone was asking her about how her astar scholarship thing is getting along.

4. in about 12 more hours, i'll be on the plane to korea for a 7-day vacation, will be back on 29th night. graduation trip...hmm mixed feelings, i look forward to going to korea. but i don't really look forward to some other stuff...haven't even go and there's already so much conflict and 'landmines'. i just want an enjoyable holiday with my close friends, but i think it's pretty much impossible now. i just hope nothing much happens and i'll be able to hold back my tongue.

i'm in school now, waiting like an idiot for my boss to come to work.

it's 2.19pm.
i've been waiting since 9.25am.
and i've emailed him last friday to ask if he'll be around on mon morning so that we can discuss about my report.

and he is not here yet!!!

call him, he don't answer.
sms him, he don't reply.
i've just emailed him.

i desperately need to talk to him to get back my draft and discuss the parts he said i need to change.

where the hell is he???
how much longer do i have to wait???

it's a long long journey...

well, i've had enough of complaining about my fyp supervisor, so shall not tarnish my blog with him..let's focus on my work instead. rushed through the whole of last week to get some reasonable results and analysis and endured a few late nights to finish up my report, just so that i can hand in my first draft on wednesday. and i think it's very badly written, i hope he'll be nice enough to point out my mistakes instead of letting me die an awful death...it's my final report and i don't want to get a lower grade for honours because of it!!

can you imagine it? that's practically the end of my academic life in NTU...handing in my fyp thesis means graduation!! and graduation means unemployment!! haiz...i hope i can find a job soon. don't feel like going on grad trip with the thought of unemployment bugging me.

speaking of grad trip, guess where i'm going? K-O-R-E-A! yeah, wow...not really looking forward to the trip because of some reasons, but still, money paid, so go lor...

oh yah, happy birthday to ms aw...quite belated, but better than none hor...haha...

some updates

a small diversion - well...i guess i simply won't understand what some people are thinking or why some people have to poke their noses into matters that doesn't concern them at all...

graduation trip - i want to go to a lot of places!!!!!!! haiz...but i've no money...i've only enough to go on 1 trip but i want to go with my friends as well as my dear too...but i don't have enough cash to go twice!!! and somemore, i think my mummy will scold me if i go for 2 holidays in a span of 3 weeks...how how how???

fyp - getting a major headache over this...the contamination problem persists and i'm so jittery over it...i mean, i can't get any work done if i don't get my cells. and somemore, today i realised that we've been using the dishes meant for bacteria work to grow my cells...no wonder they don't grow well. but general store doesn't have the dishes that i need!! so have to resort to other means, trying it out for the first time tmr, i hope it works fine. if tmr's experiment go well, hopefully i'll have some pretty decent results for my thesis. else i really don't know how i am going to churn up 5000 words worth of rubbish for the thesis...prays hard.

explosion in lab!!

oh wow...something exciting happened in lab...

this new indian guy doing phd in my lab was doing some experiment involving some high pressure (not very sure about what he was doing too, only knew he was using the gas faucet to induce a very high pressure in a big glass bottle filled with methanol)...then apparently the bottle couldn't take the high pressure and the bottle exploded!! mind you, it was a very very very big bottle...so when it exploded, it was deafening and shocked all of us. and the glass shattered with an impact that was so great that we found glass near the bacteria culture room...and to think that yinling, meilin and i were standing so near when the explosion happened, it was real lucky that we didn't get hurt...but anyway, that guy got hurt, a couple of very deep cuts on his face (very near his eyes!! lucky him!!) but he bleed a lot...at a point, he even fainted for a couple of minutes...and he got methanol and blood all over him...scared all of us...so this girl from yinling's lab hurriedly helped us call ambulance and they came and sent him to the hospital...the rest of us got to work to clean up the damage...wonder how he is now?

well...a good example of the dangers lurking in a research lab...so everyone, please be careful!! make sure you read up on everything you are doing and listen to other people's advice!! while we were talking when cleaning up the lab, i realised that guy didn't really know what he was doing, and another guy from my lab already told him that what he was doing was quite dangerous but he insisted on doing it, hence the accident...so everyone, accidents can be prevented!! be careful k!!
